In March 2023, the stranded wire price stood at $5,276 per ton (FOB, Turkey), with an increase of 5.3% against the previous month. Over the last twelve-month period, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.7%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in January 2023 an increase of 16% against the previous month. The export price peaked in March 2023.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Poland ($9,792 per ton), while the average price for exports to Egypt ($1,999 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From March 2022 to March 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Poland (+6.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Turkey Stranded Wire Export Prices by Type
Prices varied noticeably by the product type; the product with the highest price was copper stranded wire, cables and plaited bands ($10,502 per ton), while the average price for exports of stranded wire, ropes, cables, plaited bands, slings and the like, of iron or steel, not electrically insulated ($2,042 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From March 2022 to March 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for the following types: stranded wire, ropes, cables, plaited bands, slings and the like, of iron or steel, not electrically insulated (+1.1%), while the prices for the other products experienced a decline.
Turkey Stranded Wire Exports
Stranded wire exports from Turkey rose rapidly to 18K tons in March 2023, picking up by 9.7% on the previous month. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a noticeable decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in August 2022 when exports increased by 17% against the previous month.
In value terms, stranded wire exports skyrocketed to $94M (IndexBox estimates) in March 2023. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern.
Turkey Stranded Wire Exports by Type
Stranded wire, ropes, cables, plaited bands, slings and the like, of iron or steel, not electrically insulated (7.5K tons), copper stranded wire, cables and plaited bands (6.1K tons) and aluminium; stranded wire, cables, plaited bands and the like, (not electrically insulated) (4.2K tons) were the main products of stranded wire exports from Turkey.
From March 2022 to March 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the major product types, was attained by copper stranded wire (with a CAGR of +0.8%), while the other products experienced a decline.
In value terms, copper stranded wire, cables and plaited bands ($64M) remains the largest type of stranded wire exported from Turkey, comprising 68% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by stranded wire, ropes, cables, plaited bands, slings and the like, of iron or steel, not electrically insulated ($15M), with a 16% share of total exports.
From March 2022 to March 2023, the average monthly growth rate of the export volume of copper stranded wire, cables and plaited bands was relatively modest. With regard to the other exported products, the following average monthly rates of growth were recorded: stranded wire, ropes, cables, plaited bands, slings and the like, of iron or steel, not electrically insulated (-3.8% per month) and aluminium; stranded wire, cables, plaited bands and the like, (not electrically insulated) (-1.0% per month).
Turkey Stranded Wire Exports by Country
Italy (2.4K tons), the United States (1.6K tons) and Germany (1.6K tons) were the main destinations of stranded wire exports from Turkey, with a combined 32% share of total exports. The UK, Slovakia, Romania, Bulgaria, Egypt, Spain, Poland, Belgium, France and Mozambique lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 34%.
From March 2022 to March 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Mozambique (with a CAGR of +47.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Italy ($21M) remains the key foreign market for stranded wire exports from Turkey, comprising 22% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Germany ($9M), with a 9.6% share of total exports. It was followed by the United States, with an 8.9% share.
From March 2022 to March 2023, the average monthly growth rate of value to Italy amounted to +2.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: Germany (+1.6% per month) and the United States (-0.5% per month).
