Turkey's Sweet Biscuit Price Increases 3% to New Record of $2,546 per Ton

Turkey Sweet Biscuit Export Price in January 2023

In January 2023, the sweet biscuit price amounted to $2,546 per ton (FOB, Turkey), picking up by 2.8% against the previous month. Over the last twelve-month period, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.7%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in August 2022 an increase of 7.4% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs in January 2023.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In January 2023, the country with the highest price was Saudi Arabia ($3,892 per ton), while the average price for exports to Syrian Arab Republic ($1,748 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2022 to January 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Saudi Arabia (+8.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Turkey Sweet Biscuit Exports

In January 2023, shipments abroad of sweet biscuits decreased by -28.9% to 14K tons for the first time since July 2022, thus ending a five-month rising trend. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in June 2022 when exports increased by 50% month-to-month.

In value terms, sweet biscuit exports fell rapidly to $35M (IndexBox estimates) in January 2023. In general, total exports indicated temperate growth from January 2022 to January 2023: its value increased at an average monthly rate of +2.6% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on January 2023 figures, exports decreased by -26.9% against December 2022 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in June 2022 when exports increased by 53% m-o-m.

Turkey Sweet Biscuit Exports by Country

Iraq (1.9K tons), Yemen (1.8K tons) and Oman (814 tons) were the main destinations of sweet biscuit exports from Turkey, together comprising 33% of total exports. Syrian Arab Republic, Lebanon, Azerbaijan, Romania, Israel, Libya, Germany, Saudi Arabia, Palestine and the United Arab Emirates lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 32%.

From January 2022 to January 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Saudi Arabia (with a CAGR of +34.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Iraq ($4.7M), Yemen ($3.6M) and Oman ($1.6M) were the largest markets for sweet biscuit exported from Turkey worldwide, with a combined 28% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Azerbaijan, Saudi Arabia, Libya, Germany, Israel, Lebanon, Syrian Arab Republic, Romania, Palestine and the United Arab Emirates, which together accounted for a further 35%.

In terms of the main countries of destination, Saudi Arabia, with a CAGR of +45.4%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
