Turkey's Textile Wadding Price Grows Markedly to $5,240 per Ton

Turkey Textile Wadding Export Price in January 2023

In January 2023, the textile wadding price stood at $5,240 per ton (FOB, Turkey), picking up by 5.1% against the previous month. Over the last twelve months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.0%. The growth pace was the most rapid in June 2022 when the average export price increased by 11% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum in January 2023.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In January 2023, the country with the highest price was Georgia ($10,322 per ton), while the average price for exports to Italy ($2,436 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2022 to January 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Azerbaijan (+11.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Turkey Textile Wadding Exports

Textile wadding exports from Turkey rose sharply to 2K tons in January 2023, increasing by 14% against December 2022. The total export volume increased at an average monthly rate of +2.1% over the period from January 2022 to January 2023; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain months. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in March 2022 with an increase of 26% m-o-m.

In value terms, textile wadding exports soared to $10M (IndexBox estimates) in January 2023. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a tangible expansion from January 2022 to January 2023: its value increased at an average monthly rate of +4.2% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on January 2023 figures, exports decreased by -4.3% against September 2022 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in June 2022 with an increase of 36% m-o-m.

Turkey Textile Wadding Exports by Country

Germany (540 tons), the United States (307 tons) and Georgia (125 tons) were the main destinations of textile wadding exports from Turkey, together accounting for 49% of total exports. These countries were followed by Spain, Azerbaijan, Poland, Uzbekistan, France, Italy, Sudan, the UK, Bulgaria and Romania, which together accounted for a further 32%.

From January 2022 to January 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Uzbekistan (with a CAGR of +41.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($1.8M), the United States ($1.5M) and Georgia ($1.3M) constituted the largest markets for textile wadding exported from Turkey worldwide, together accounting for 44% of total exports. Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Romania, Sudan, Poland, France, Spain, Bulgaria, the UK and Italy lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 34%.

Uzbekistan, with a CAGR of +49.2%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
