Turkish Vinegar Consumption Increased over the Past Two Years

In 2016, Turkish vinegar market stood at X million liters. There was a noticeable drop in the level of consumption over the 2009-2012 period, which was followed by recovery over the next four years. In value terms, the market stood at X million USD (IndexBox estimates).

Turkey's Vinegar Consumption Is Set to Reach X Million Liters by 2025

Growth in Turkey's vinegar consumption is expected to reach +X% per year in the medium term. An increase in consumption of processed food, as well as an increase in food consumption as a whole due to population growth, rising incomes, and urbanization will be the leading factors contributing to the growth of Turkey's vinegar market.

After Attaining Pre-crisis Figures, Vinegar Production Increased by X% in 2016

Turkey is one of the key global producers of vinegar (it is among the top X countries in terms of global output). Approximately X% of domestic consumption is met through domestic output.

The production of vinegar in Turkey reached X million liters in 2016, which was X% more than the year before. After a period of decline seen from 2009-2011, production volume demonstrated positive dynamics, allowing Turkey to reach pre-crisis volume in 2014. In value terms, it dropped to X million USD, which was X% below the previous year's value. This decline, however, was due to the weakening of the national currency against the U.S. dollar. The volume of production, expressed in national currency, on the contrary, grew steadily, amounting to an estimated X million Turkish Liras in 2016.

Asian Countries Constituted the Main Destinations for Vinegar Exports

Turkey exported X million liters of vinegar in 2016, which accounted for X% of the country's total vinegar output. From 2007 to 2016, Turkey's vinegar exports showed a steady increase.

In 2016, Iraq (X%), Saudi Arabia (X%), Germany (X), the U.S. (X%), Azerbaijan (X%), Georgia (X%), and Malaysia (X%) were the main destinations for Turkey's vinegar exports. The shares exported to Iraq and Georgia (+X percentage points each) increased, while the shares sent to Germany (-X percentage points) and Saudi Arabia (-X percentage points) illustrated negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

Italy Emerged as a Key Supplier of Vinegar

Foreign supplies of vinegar to Turkey were insignificant in volume and strongly fluctuated during the analyzed period. The volume of Turkey's vinegar imports totaled X million liters in 2016.

Italy (X%, based on liters), the UK (X%), and China (X%) were the main suppliers of vinegar to Turkey, with a X share of total imports in 2016.

The UK strengthened its position in Turkey's import structure by +X percentage points from 2007 to 2016, while Italy saw its share reduced by -X percentage points.
