Under Armour Surpasses Wall Street Expectations Despite Revenue Decline

In its latest financial disclosure, Under Armour (NYSE:UAA) reported its financial performance for the fourth quarter of calendar year 2024, beating Wall Street's revenue forecasts. The company's revenues, however, saw a 5.7% year-on-year decrease to $1.40 billion. According to Yahoo Finance, non-GAAP earnings per share stood significantly higher than analysts' predictions at $0.08 per share.

These results come as Under Armour, established in 1996 by a former University of Maryland football player, continues to navigate the shifting consumer landscape favoring e-commerce and omnichannel experiences. Despite showing resilience above expectations this quarter, Under Armour's long-term revenue growth has shown stagnation. Over the past two years, the company's revenues have declined by an average of 4.3% annually, according to data from the IndexBox platform.

Further analysis of Under Armour's sales in constant currency terms confirmed these trends, showing an average decline of 3.8% year on year over the past two years. Although the company's free cash flow position improved to $262.9 million for Q4 with an 18.8% margin, it still indicates regression compared to the previous year.

Looking into the future, analysts anticipate a continuing decline in revenue, projecting a 3.3% drop over the next 12 months. However, Under Armour's ability to outperform expectations this quarter, particularly in terms of earnings per share, suggests potential for improved cash generation in the upcoming year. Analysts forecast a shift from a negative free cash flow margin of 2.9% to a positive 4.4%, providing Under Armour with more resources for reinvestment.

Overall, the market responded positively to the earnings release, with shares trading up 7.8% to $8.88, signifying investor confidence in Under Armour's trajectory heading into 2025.
