United Kingdom Crude Coconut Oil Imports
In 2023, supplies from abroad of crude coconut (copra) oil decreased by -38% to 2.3K tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. In general, imports recorded a abrupt curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 92%. Imports peaked at 8.6K tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2023, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, crude coconut oil imports dropped rapidly to $8.3M (IndexBox estimates) in 2023. Over the period under review, imports recorded a pronounced shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 84%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $23M in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2023, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country
Indonesia (566 tons), the Netherlands (552 tons) and the Philippines (434 tons) were the main suppliers of crude coconut oil imports to the UK, with a combined 68% share of total imports. Slovenia, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, the United States and Germany lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 31%.
From 2013 to 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Vietnam (with a CAGR of +58.1%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest crude coconut oil suppliers to the UK were the Philippines ($2.2M), Slovenia ($2.1M) and Sri Lanka ($1.3M), with a combined 68% share of total imports. the Netherlands, Indonesia, Vietnam, the United States and Germany lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 29%.
Vietnam, with a CAGR of +58.5%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2023, the crude coconut oil price stood at $3,620 per ton (CIF, United Kingdom), with a decrease of -7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated a remarkable increase from 2013 to 2023: its price increased at an average annual rate of +10.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2023 figures, crude coconut oil import price increased by +56.8% against 2021 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2022 when the average import price increased by 69%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $3,892 per ton, and then declined in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2023, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($13,041 per ton), while the price for Indonesia ($1,699 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2013 to 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Malaysia (+53.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
