In 2024, UK Imports of Egg Product Surge by 4%, Setting a New Record at $207 Million

United Kingdom Egg Product Imports

In 2024, overseas purchases of egg products increased by 15% to 57K tons, rising for the third year in a row after five years of decline. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% over the period from 2014 to 2024; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 26% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at 57K tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2024, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, egg product imports expanded to $207M (IndexBox estimates) in 2024. In general, total imports indicated a strong expansion from 2014 to 2024: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2024 figures, imports increased by +118.9% against 2021 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2023 when imports increased by 49%. Imports by Country

In 2024, the Netherlands (39K tons) constituted the largest egg product supplier to the UK, accounting for a 69% share of total imports. Moreover, egg product imports from the Netherlands exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Belgium (3.9K tons), tenfold. France (3.9K tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 6.8% share.

From 2014 to 2024, the average annual growth rate of volume from the Netherlands amounted to +2.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Belgium (+0.9% per year) and France (-1.6% per year).

In value terms, the Netherlands ($134M) constituted the largest supplier of egg products to the UK, comprising 65% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by France ($17M), with an 8.4% share of total imports. It was followed by Belgium, with an 8.3% share.

From 2014 to 2024, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from the Netherlands totaled +6.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: France (-0.9% per year) and Belgium (+4.9% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2024, the egg product price amounted to $3,631 per ton (CIF, United Kingdom), with a decrease of -9.5% against the previous year. In general, import price indicated moderate growth from 2014 to 2024: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2024 figures, egg product import price increased by +56.7% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2022 when the average import price increased by 39%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $4,014 per ton in 2023, and then declined in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($5,419 per ton), while the price for Spain ($2,175 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2014 to 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+4.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
