UK Passenger Car Tyre Price Rises Slightly to $45.9 per Unit

United Kingdom Passenger Car Tyre Import Price in February 2023

In February 2023, the passenger car tyre price amounted to $45.9 per unit (CIF, United Kingdom), approximately reflecting the previous month. In general, the import price, however, recorded a slight reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in January 2023 when the average import price increased by 41% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $53.6 per unit in March 2022; however, from April 2022 to February 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($92.5 per unit), while the price for China ($26.9 per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From February 2022 to February 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey (+2.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

United Kingdom Passenger Car Tyre Imports

In February 2023, purchases abroad of tyres for motor cars decreased by -2.5% to 3.6M units, falling for the second consecutive month after four months of growth. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in November 2022 with an increase of 21% month-to-month. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at 4.8M units in December 2022; however, from January 2023 to February 2023, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, passenger car tyre imports contracted modestly to $164M (IndexBox estimates) in February 2023. In general, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in November 2022 with an increase of 23% m-o-m. Imports peaked at 193M units in March 2022; however, from April 2022 to February 2023, imports failed to regain momentum.

United Kingdom Passenger Car Tyre Imports by Country

In February 2023, China (1.8M units) constituted the largest supplier of passenger car tyre to the UK, with a 51% share of total imports. Moreover, passenger car tyre imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Germany (220K units), eightfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Hungary (155K units), with a 4.3% share.

From February 2022 to February 2023, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of volume from China stood at +2.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Germany (-0.7% per month) and Hungary (+1.3% per month).

In value terms, China ($49M) constituted the largest supplier of passenger car tyre to the UK, comprising 30% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Germany ($16M), with a 10% share of total imports. It was followed by Spain, with a 6.3% share.

From February 2022 to February 2023, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of value from China was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Germany (+0.4% per month) and Spain (+1.4% per month).
