United Kingdom Playing Cards Import Price in March 2023
In March 2023, the playing cards price amounted to $23,062 per ton (CIF, United Kingdom), dropping by -15.6% against the previous month. Overall, import price indicated buoyant growth from March 2022 to March 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +5.1% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on March 2023 figures, playing cards import price increased by +71.1% against November 2022 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in August 2022 an increase of 60% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $27,338 per ton in February 2023, and then dropped rapidly in the following month.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Japan ($47,799 per ton), while the price for China ($8,222 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From March 2022 to March 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belgium (+9.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

United Kingdom Playing Cards Imports
In March 2023, playing cards imports into the UK declined dramatically to 424 tons, which is down by -32.6% against February 2023 figures. Over the period under review, imports showed a deep reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in July 2022 with an increase of 140% month-to-month. As a result, imports reached the peak of 1.6K tons. From August 2022 to March 2023, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, playing cards imports reduced rapidly to $9.8M (IndexBox estimates) in March 2023. Overall, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2023 when imports increased by 129% against the previous month.
United Kingdom Playing Cards Imports by Country
The United States (169 tons), China (131 tons) and Belgium (54 tons) were the main suppliers of playing cards imports to the UK, together accounting for 84% of total imports. These countries were followed by Japan and Poland, which together accounted for a further 12%.
From March 2022 to March 2023, the biggest increases were in Japan (with a CAGR of +20.9%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.
In value terms, the United States ($5.6M) constituted the largest supplier of playing cards to the UK, comprising 57% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Japan ($1.3M), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by China, with an 11% share.
From March 2022 to March 2023, the average monthly growth rate of value from the United States was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Japan (+19.5% per month) and China (-5.0% per month).
