Upwell Secures $6.5 Million to Revolutionize Logistics Payment Automation

Upwell, a payment automation platform, announced on Monday that it has secured $6.5 million in a seed funding round, led by Vertical Venture Partners with participation from Plug and Play Ventures among others. For more details, visit Yahoo Finance here.

Since 2023, Upwell has raised $10 million, signaling its increasing impact in the logistics industry—a sector historically underserved by automation. With financing intricacies plaguing logistics companies, particularly in the accounts receivable domain, the new funds will support Upwell's plans to accelerate product development and expand their market presence.

The logistics industry is laden with payment inefficiencies, often complicated by stringent invoicing demands imposed by shippers. Upwell's mission transcends these challenges by utilizing an AI-driven platform to streamline the entire invoicing process. This platform significantly reduces payment delays by automating submission and approval workflows, offering relief to logistics providers.

As Vice President Meg Boaz noted, "Shippers can make it very difficult to bill them, adding a bunch of requirements, but our platform centralizes the billing process." This central hub integrates with accounting and transportation management systems such as McLeod, Sage, QuickBooks, and Descartes Aljex, eliminating inefficiencies caused by switching between multiple software applications.

Brad Hollister, Vice President of Strategy and Partnerships, explained that the newly secured funding will support the enhancement of Upwell's capabilities. With access to extensive payment data, Upwell can implement AI and predictive analytics to offer clients early warnings of potential payment issues, thus safeguarding cash flow for brokers and carriers. "There's so much more we want to learn and teach customers with their payment data," Hollister remarked.
