U.S. Audio And Video Equipment Import Price in February 2023
In February 2023, the audio and video equipment price stood at $16.8 per unit (CIF, US), with a decrease of -26.5% against the previous month. In general, the import price recorded a pronounced downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in September 2022 an increase of 73% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $38.1 per unit in October 2022; however, from November 2022 to February 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In February 2023, the country with the highest price was Mexico ($74.5 per unit), while the price for China ($6.1 per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From February 2022 to February 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mexico (-2.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
U.S. Audio And Video Equipment Imports
In February 2023, audio and video equipment imports into the United States soared to 148M units, growing by 20% compared with the previous month. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a mild expansion from February 2022 to February 2023: its volume increased at an average monthly rate of +1.9% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on February 2023 figures, imports increased by +33.0% against November 2022 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in August 2022 when imports increased by 100% m-o-m. As a result, imports reached the peak of 219M units. From September 2022 to February 2023, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, audio and video equipment imports declined to $2.5B (IndexBox estimates) in February 2023. Overall, imports, however, showed a slight decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 when imports increased by 20% month-to-month. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at 4.4B units in October 2022; however, from November 2022 to February 2023, imports remained at a lower figure.
U.S. Audio And Video Equipment Imports by Country
In February 2023, China (93M units) constituted the largest audio and video equipment supplier to the United States, accounting for a 63% share of total imports. Moreover, audio and video equipment imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Vietnam (22M units), fourfold. Mexico (13M units) ranked third in terms of total imports with an 8.8% share.
From February 2022 to February 2023, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of volume from China amounted to +1.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Vietnam (+5.7% per month) and Mexico (+1.6% per month).
In value terms, the largest audio and video equipment suppliers to the United States were Mexico ($964M), China ($572M) and Vietnam ($313M), together accounting for 74% of total imports. These countries were followed by Taiwan (Chinese) and Canada, which together accounted for a further 4.7%.
Among the main suppliers, Canada, with a CAGR of +3.0%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline.
