U.S. Curtain And Linen Imports
In 2023, purchases abroad of curtains and linen decreased by -15.6% to 2.2M tons, falling for the second consecutive year after nine years of growth. In general, total imports indicated noticeable growth from 2013 to 2023: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2023 figures, imports decreased by -28.2% against 2021 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 27% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 3.1M tons. From 2022 to 2023, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, curtain and linen imports contracted significantly to $10.9B (IndexBox estimates) in 2023. Overall, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 31%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $16.1B. From 2022 to 2023, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country
In 2023, China (1.5M tons) constituted the largest curtain and linen supplier to the United States, with a 66% share of total imports. Moreover, curtain and linen imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Pakistan (358K tons), fourfold. India (291K tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 13% share.
From 2013 to 2023, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China amounted to +5.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Pakistan (+1.7% per year) and India (+3.6% per year).
In value terms, China ($5.8B) constituted the largest supplier of curtains and linen to the United States, comprising 53% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by India ($2.5B), with a 23% share of total imports. It was followed by Pakistan, with a 13% share.
From 2013 to 2023, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from China was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: India (+1.9% per year) and Pakistan (+0.4% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2023, the curtain and linen price amounted to $4,848 per ton (CIF, US), waning by -11.9% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a noticeable decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2022 when the average import price increased by 6.6%. The import price peaked at $7,152 per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2023, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was India ($8,445 per ton), while the price for Pakistan ($3,858 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2013 to 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Pakistan (-1.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
