U.S. Cycle with Auxiliary Motor and Side Car Import Price in October 2022

In October 2022, the cycle with auxiliary motor and side car price amounted to $336 per unit (CIF, US), surging by 2.1% against the previous month. In general, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in March 2022 an increase of 41% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $562 per unit in May 2022; however, from June 2022 to October 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Taiwan (Chinese) ($2,066 per unit), while the price for China ($227 per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2022 to October 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Taiwan (Chinese) (+4.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In October 2022, overseas purchases of cycles with auxiliary motors and side cars increased by 5.8% to 617K units, rising for the sixth month in a row after three months of decline. Overall, imports recorded a pronounced increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in August 2022 when imports increased by 50% against the previous month. Imports peaked in October 2022.

Over the period under review, total imports indicated a remarkable increase from January 2022 to October 2022: its value increased at an average monthly rate of +5.8% over the last nine months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on October 2022 figures, imports increased by +58.7% against April 2022 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in August 2022 when imports increased by 28% against the previous month. Over the period under review, imports of attained the maximum in October 2022.

In October 2022, China (566K units) was the main supplier of cycle with auxiliary motor and side car to the United States, with a 92% share of total imports. Moreover, imports of cycles with auxiliary motors and side cars from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Taiwan (Chinese) (20K units), more than tenfold.

From January 2022 to October 2022, the average monthly growth rate of volume from China stood at +5.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Taiwan (Chinese) (-2.4% per month) and Cambodia (+16.7% per month).

In value terms, China ($128M) constituted the largest supplier of cycle with auxiliary motor and side car to the United States, comprising 62% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Taiwan (Chinese) ($42M), with a 20% share of total imports.

From January 2022 to October 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of value from China totaled +6.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Taiwan (Chinese) (+2.3% per month) and Cambodia (+18.9% per month).
