US Equities Face Challenges Amid Rising Treasury Yields and Strong Dollar

US equities could encounter challenging times over the next six months as Treasury yields surge and the dollar strengthens due to inflation concerns, according to Morgan Stanley strategists. The correlation between the S&P 500 Index and bond yields has shifted greatly, with the 10-year Treasury yield climbing above 4.5%, marking substantial changes compared to previous months.

In a detailed report by strategist Michael Wilson, it was highlighted that the 30-year yield reached its highest level since late 2023. Simultaneously, the dollar is nearing levels that might pressure companies with significant international exposure, potentially impacting a broad range of stocks as the year progresses. The U.S. equities market could see a split year; with supportive policies potentially uplifting stocks later in the year, a substantive 9% gain for the S&P 500 is anticipated by Morgan Stanley.
