In November 2023, after three months of growth, there was significant decline in overseas purchases of fabricated structural metal, when their volume decreased by -21.7% to 190K tons. In general, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in March 2023 with an increase of 27% m-o-m.

Imports by Country
Mexico (35K tons), China (31K tons) and India (24K tons) were the main suppliers of fabricated structural metal imports to the United States, with a combined 48% share of total imports.
From November 2022 to November 2023, the biggest increases were in India (with a CAGR of +3.8%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest fabricated structural metal suppliers to the United States were Mexico ($134M), Canada ($110M) and China ($49M), together comprising 47% of total imports. India, Turkey, Vietnam and Thailand lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 14%.
India, with a CAGR of +0.5%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline.
Import Prices by Country
In November 2023, the fabricated structural metal price amounted to $3,245 per ton (CIF, US), leveling off at the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in December 2022 an increase of 13% against the previous month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $3,567 per ton. From January 2023 to November 2023, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Germany ($14,600 per ton), while the price for Portugal ($1,386 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From November 2022 to November 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+6.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
