U.S. Honey Imports
Honey imports into the United States shrank slightly to 199K tons in 2023, declining by -3.1% against 2022 figures. Overall, imports saw a perceptible curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 22%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 405K tons. From 2018 to 2023, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, honey imports reduced notably to $554M (IndexBox estimates) in 2023. In general, imports saw a abrupt decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 50% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $1.2B in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2023, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country
India (77K tons), Argentina (45K tons) and Brazil (23K tons) were the main suppliers of honey imports to the United States, together accounting for 73% of total imports.
From 2013 to 2023, the biggest increases were recorded for India (with a CAGR of +11.6%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest honey suppliers to the United States were India ($150M), Argentina ($128M) and Brazil ($68M), with a combined 62% share of total imports. New Zealand, Mexico, Vietnam, Canada and Ukraine lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 22%.
In terms of the main suppliers, New Zealand, with a CAGR of +16.9%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2023, the honey price stood at $2,780 per ton (CIF, US), which is down by -21.9% against the previous year. In general, the import price recorded a slight contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 34% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $3,560 per ton in 2022, and then reduced sharply in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Canada ($5,029 per ton), while the price for Vietnam ($1,408 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2013 to 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey (+1.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
