In 2023, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas purchases of industrial valves, when their volume decreased by -14.9% to 592K tons. Overall, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2022 when imports increased by 33% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 696K tons, and then fell in the following year.
In value terms, industrial valve imports contracted modestly to $12.6B (IndexBox estimates) in 2023. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% from 2013 to 2023; however, the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2022 when imports increased by 19% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $12.8B, and then reduced in the following year.

Imports by Country
In 2023, China (204K tons) constituted the largest supplier of industrial valve to the United States, with a 34% share of total imports. Moreover, industrial valve imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Mexico (83K tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Italy (52K tons), with an 8.8% share.
From 2013 to 2023, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China totaled -1.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Mexico (+1.9% per year) and Italy (-3.1% per year).
In value terms, Mexico ($2.4B), China ($2.3B) and Japan ($1,000M) constituted the largest industrial valve suppliers to the United States, with a combined 46% share of total imports.
Mexico, with a CAGR of +3.6%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2023, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($47,437 per ton), while the price for China ($11,457 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
