U.S. Measuring Instrument Import Price in March 2023
In March 2023, the measuring instrument price stood at $17.1 per unit, therefore (CIF, US), remained relatively stable against the previous month. Over the period from March 2022 to March 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.4%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in December 2022 when the average import price increased by 15% month-to-month. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $17,841 per thousand units. From January 2023 to March 2023, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In March 2023, the country with the highest price was Germany ($46.6 per unit), while the price for Thailand ($3.6 per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From March 2022 to March 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Korea (+3.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

U.S. Measuring Instrument Imports
In March 2023, approximately 4.6M units of instruments and apparatus for measuring or checking the flow or level of liquids were imported into the United States; growing by 7.8% against February 2023. In general, imports, however, showed a mild setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in August 2022 when imports increased by 18% against the previous month. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at 5.6M units in March 2022; however, from April 2022 to March 2023, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, measuring instrument imports rose significantly to $78M (IndexBox estimates) in March 2023. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2023 when imports increased by 8.8% m-o-m. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at 82M units in March 2022; however, from April 2022 to March 2023, imports remained at a lower figure.
U.S. Measuring Instrument Imports by Country
In March 2023, Mexico (2.3M units) constituted the largest supplier of measuring instrument to the United States, with a 51% share of total imports. Moreover, measuring instrument imports from Mexico exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, China (863K units), threefold. Canada (395K units) ranked third in terms of total imports with an 8.6% share.
From March 2022 to March 2023, the average monthly growth rate of volume from Mexico stood at -2.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: China (-1.6% per month) and Canada (+1.1% per month).
In value terms, Mexico ($19M), Germany ($11M) and China ($8.5M) appeared to be the largest measuring instrument suppliers to the United States, with a combined 49% share of total imports. Canada, Japan, South Korea, the Czech Republic and Thailand lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 15%.
South Korea, with a CAGR of +6.0%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
