Poultry exports from the United States declined slightly to 309K tons in February 2023, which is down by -3% against January 2023. Over the period under review, exports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in May 2022 with an increase of 14% month-to-month.
In value terms, poultry exports declined slightly to $379M (IndexBox estimates) in February 2023. In general, exports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in May 2022 with an increase of 12% m-o-m.

Exports by Country
Mexico (65K tons), China (38K tons) and Cuba (23K tons) were the main destinations of poultry exports from the United States, together accounting for 41% of total exports. Taiwan (Chinese), Guatemala, Canada, Vietnam, Congo, Haiti, Angola, the Philippines, the Dominican Republic and South Africa lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 32%.
From February 2022 to February 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by the Dominican Republic (with a CAGR of +6.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for poultry exported from the United States were Mexico ($77M), China ($62M) and Canada ($28M), together comprising 44% of total exports. Taiwan (Chinese), Cuba, Guatemala, Vietnam, Congo, Angola, the Dominican Republic, the Philippines, South Africa and Haiti lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 31%.
Vietnam, with a CAGR of +4.0%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Exports by Type
Chicken meat (300K tons) was the largest type of poultry exported from the United States, accounting for a 97% share of total exports. It was followed by turkey meat (8.6K tons), with a 2.8% share of total exports.
From February 2022 to February 2023, the average monthly growth rate of the volume of export of chicken meat was relatively modest. With regard to the other exported products, the following average monthly rates of growth were recorded: turkey meat (-2.6% per month) and duck and goose meat (+3.1% per month).
In value terms, chicken meat ($354M) remains the largest type of poultry exported from the United States, comprising 93% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by turkey meat ($23M), with a 6.1% share of total exports.
From February 2022 to February 2023, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of the export volume of chicken meat was relatively modest. With regard to the other exported products, the following average monthly rates of growth were recorded: turkey meat (-4.0% per month) and duck and goose meat (+4.3% per month).
Export Prices by Country
In February 2023, the poultry price stood at $1,227 per ton (FOB, US), growing by 2.1% against the previous month. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in June 2022 an increase of 16% month-to-month. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $1,561 per ton. From July 2022 to February 2023, the the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Canada ($2,818 per ton), while the average price for exports to Haiti ($894 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
