U.S. Pump For Liquid Import Price in May 2023
In May 2023, the pump for liquid price amounted to $8.9 per unit (CIF, US), declining by -1.8% against the previous month. Over the period under review, import price indicated a measured expansion from May 2022 to May 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +2.4% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on May 2023 figures, pump for liquid import price decreased by -16.5% against February 2023 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in February 2023 when the average import price increased by 37% m-o-m. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $10,633 per thousand units. From March 2023 to May 2023, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In May 2023, the country with the highest price was Italy ($26.1 per unit), while the price for Thailand ($935 per thousand units) was amongst the lowest.
From May 2022 to May 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Taiwan (Chinese) (+5.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

U.S. Pump For Liquid Import Prices by Type
Prices varied noticeably by the product type; the product with the highest price was concrete pumps ($83,495 per unit), while the price for positive displacement pumps and hand pumps ($244 per thousand units) was amongst the lowest.
From May 2022 to May 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by concrete pump (+4.2%), while the prices for the other products experienced more modest paces of growth.
U.S. Pump For Liquid Imports
In May 2023, the amount of pumps for liquids and liquid elevators imported into the United States reached 92M units, picking up by 6.6% on the previous month. In general, imports, however, saw a perceptible setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in January 2023 when imports increased by 31% month-to-month. Imports peaked at 131M units in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to May 2023, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, pump for liquid imports totaled $820M (IndexBox estimates) in May 2023. Overall, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in March 2023 with an increase of 11% m-o-m. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in May 2023.
U.S. Pump For Liquid Imports by Type
In May 2023, positive displacement pumps and hand pumps (77M units) constituted the largest type of pump for liquid supplied to the United States, with a 83% share of total imports. Moreover, positive displacement pumps and hand pumps exceeded the figures recorded for the second-largest type, fuel, lubricating or cooling-medium pumps for internal combustion engines (5.2M units), more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by pumps for liquids (3.9M units), with a 4.2% share.
From May 2022 to May 2023, the average monthly growth rate of the volume of import of positive displacement pumps and hand pumps totaled -2.7%. With regard to the other supplied products, the following average monthly rates of growth were recorded: fuel, lubricating or cooling-medium pumps for internal combustion engines (-2.0% per month) and pumps for liquids (-1.3% per month).
In value terms, fuel, lubricating or cooling-medium pumps for internal combustion engines ($252M), hydraulic pumps (axial and radial piston) and other reciprocating positive displacement pumps ($160M) and pumps for liquids ($160M) appeared to be the most imported types of pumps for liquids and liquid elevators in the United States, with a combined 70% share of total imports. Hydraulic pumps (gear or vane) and other rotary positive displacement pumps , pumps and liquid elevators; n.e.s. in heading no. 8413, pumps for dispensing liquids, positive displacement pumps and hand pumps, concrete pumps, petrol and oil dispensing pumps and liquid elevators lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 30%.
U.S. Pump For Liquid Imports by Country
In May 2023, China (50M units) constituted the largest pump for liquid supplier to the United States, with a 54% share of total imports. Moreover, pump for liquid imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Mexico (17M units), threefold. Thailand (11M units) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 12% share.
From May 2022 to May 2023, the average monthly growth rate of volume from China amounted to -3.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Mexico (+0.9% per month) and Thailand (-1.6% per month).
In value terms, the largest pump for liquid suppliers to the United States were Mexico ($207M), China ($108M) and Italy ($40M), together accounting for 43% of total imports. These countries were followed by South Korea, Taiwan (Chinese), Thailand and Romania, which together accounted for a further 7.5%.
Romania, with a CAGR of +3.2%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
