In 2023, U.S. Imports of Wall Clocks Drop 34% to $122 Million

U.S. Wall Clocks Imports

In 2023, approx. 31M units of wall clocks were imported into the United States; with a decrease of -28.4% against the year before. Over the period under review, imports saw a abrupt descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 6.6%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at 64M units in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2023, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, wall clocks imports contracted notably to $122M (IndexBox estimates) in 2023. In general, imports showed a deep contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 19% against the previous year. Imports by Country

In 2023, China (30M units) was the main wall clocks supplier to the United States, accounting for a 97% share of total imports. It was followed by Thailand (201K units), with a 0.7% share of total imports. Germany (97K units) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 0.3% share.

From 2013 to 2023, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China stood at -7.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Thailand (-2.4% per year) and Germany (+3.7% per year).

In value terms, clocks, other than watches, wall clocks and instrument panel clocks ($119M) constituted the largest type of wall clocks supplied to the United States, comprising 97% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by clocks; with watch movements, excluding clocks of heading no. 9104 ($3M), with a 2.5% share of total imports.

Import Prices by Country

In 2023, the wall clocks price stood at $3.9 per unit (CIF, US), falling by -8.4% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the average import price increased by 12% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $4.6 per unit in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.

As there is only one major supplying country, the average price level is determined by prices for China.
