Venture Global Initiates LNG Production at Plaquemines Facility

Venture Global LNG Inc. has commenced the production of liquefied natural gas (LNG) at its Plaquemines plant in Louisiana, marking a significant milestone as the eighth gas export facility in the United States. According to Bloomberg, the Arlington-based company officially announced the milestone, noting first production was achieved last Friday. Venture Bayou, the company's vessel, was docked at the facility and is set for initial loading soon after startup.

The production start at Plaquemines, the company's second facility, aligns with Venture Global's plans to launch an initial public offering. However, the company is navigating legal challenges with arbitration claims valued at nearly $6 billion from prominent customers like BP Plc and Shell Plc. These disputes arise from contractual obligations at Venture Global's Calcasieu Pass facility.

In May 2022, Venture Global secured $13.2 billion in project financing for the first phase of Plaquemines with long-term buyers including Shell, Orlen SA, Sinopec, CNOOC Ltd., and Electricite de France SA. The project was not impacted by a federal halt on new LNG export projects, although Venture Global's CP2 project faces a delay under the permitting pause.
