Over the period under review, the total consumption indicated a prominent expansion from 2013 to 2024: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.6% over the last eleven-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Over the period under review, global consumption reached the maximum volume at 414M units in 2021; however, from 2022 to 2024, consumption failed to regain momentum.

The United States (120M units) constituted the country with the largest volume of water filter consumption, accounting for 30% of total volume. Moreover, water filter consumption in the United States exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest consumer, China (41M units), threefold. Canada (36M units) ranked third in terms of total consumption with an 8.9% share.

China (97M units) remains the largest water filter producing country worldwide, comprising approx. 36% of total volume. Moreover, water filter production in China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, South Korea (18M units), sixfold. Taiwan (Chinese) (15M units) ranked third in terms of total production with a 5.7% share.

From 2013 to 2024, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume in China stood at +8.8%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: South Korea (+10.1% per year) and Taiwan (Chinese) (+5.9% per year).

Overall, imports posted a remarkable increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 29%. Global imports peaked in 2024 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, water filter imports contracted to $11.1B in 2024. Over the period under review, total imports indicated noticeable growth from 2013 to 2024: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.4% over the last eleven years. South Africa (11M units), Malaysia (10M units), Japan (9.2M units), Brazil (7.9M units), France (6.5M units) and Colombia (6.2M units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Imports into the United States increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% from 2013 to 2024. At the same time, India (+26.9%), Colombia (+20.1%), Canada (+18.3%), Brazil (+14.9%), South Africa (+14.0%), Mexico (+10.2%), Malaysia (+10.2%) and Japan (+3.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, India emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the world, with a CAGR of +26.9% from 2013-2024. By contrast, France (-7.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Canada (+11 p.p.), India (+5.9 p.p.) and France (+1.7 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the global imports, while the United States saw its share reduced by -25.5% from 2013 to 2024, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the United States ($2.1B) constitutes the largest market for imported machinery for filtering or purifying water worldwide, comprising 19% of global imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Canada ($374M), with a 3.4% share of global imports. It was followed by France, with a 3.1% share.
