U.S. Wool Import Price per Ton June 2022
In June 2022, the wool price per ton amounted to $5,184 (CIF, US), with a decrease of -12.7% against the previous month. Overall, the import price recorded a pronounced reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in April 2022 when the average import price increased by 46% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $6,338 per ton in January 2022; however, from February 2022 to June 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2022, the country with the highest price was Australia ($7,501 per ton), while the price for the UK ($2,811 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+8.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
U.S. Wool Import Prices by Type
Prices varied noticeably by the product type; the product with the highest price was wool; (not carded or combed), carbonised ($5,483 per ton), while the price for wool; (not carded or combed), degreased, (not carbonised), (other than shorn) ($3,287 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by wool; (not carded or combed), carbonised (-3.7%), while the prices for the other products experienced a decline.
U.S. Wool Imports
In June 2022, approx. 343 tons of wool were imported into the United States; jumping by 43% against May 2022. Over the period under review, imports showed a buoyant increase. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, wool imports skyrocketed to $1.8M (IndexBox estimates) in June 2022. In general, imports showed a buoyant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in April 2022 when imports increased by 95% against the previous month. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in June 2022.

Wool; (not carded or combed), degreased, (not carbonised), shorn (209 tons), wool; (not carded or combed), carbonised (111 tons) and wool; (not carded or combed), degreased, (not carbonised), (other than shorn) (22 tons) were the main products of wool imports to the United States, together comprising 100% of total imports.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the major product types, was attained by wool; (not carded or combed), carbonised (with a CAGR of +49.2%), while imports for the other products experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, wool; (not carded or combed), degreased, (not carbonised), shorn ($1.1M), wool; (not carded or combed), carbonised ($608K) and wool; (not carded or combed), degreased, (not carbonised), (other than shorn) ($74K) were the most imported types of wool in the United States.
U.S. Wool Imports by Country
New Zealand (137 tons), Australia (100 tons) and Germany (48 tons) were the main suppliers of wool imports to the United States, with a combined 83% share of total imports. China, the UK and Canada lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 17%.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the biggest increases were in China (with a CAGR of +262.8%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest wool suppliers to the United States were Australia ($747K), New Zealand ($539K) and China ($259K), with a combined 87% share of total imports.
China, with a CAGR of +292.6%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
