U.S. Accumulator Import Price in June 2022
In June 2022, the accumulator price amounted to $24 per unit (CIF, US), with an increase of 2% against the previous month. Over the period from January 2022 to June 2022, it increased at an average monthly rate of +5.5%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in February 2022 an increase of 51% against the previous month. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $28.1K per thousand units. From March 2022 to June 2022, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Japan ($74 per unit), while the price for Vietnam ($15 per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Malaysia (+33.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
U.S. Accumulator Import Prices by Type
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplied products. In August 2022, the product with the highest price was lead-acid accumulators for starting piston engines ($42 per unit), while the price for lead-acid accumulators (excluding starter batteries) ($29 per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by nickel and lithium accumulators (+13.8%), while the prices for the other products experienced mixed trend patterns.
U.S. Accumulator Imports
In August 2022, purchases abroad of electric accumulators decreased by -4.1% to 43M units, falling for the third consecutive month after three months of growth. Over the period under review, imports showed a abrupt decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in May 2022 with an increase of 25% against the previous month. As a result, imports reached the peak of 70M units. From June 2022 to August 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, accumulator imports reached $1.7B (IndexBox estimates) in August 2022. The total import value increased at an average monthly rate of +5.7% from January 2022 to August 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in May 2022 when imports increased by 27% month-to-month. Imports peaked in August 2022.
U.S. Accumulator Imports by Type
In August 2022, nickel-cadmium, nickel metal hydride, lithium-ion, lithium polymer and nickel-iron accumulators (34M units) constituted the largest type of accumulator supplied to the United States, with a 79% share of total imports. Moreover, nickel-cadmium, nickel metal hydride, lithium-ion, lithium polymer and nickel-iron accumulators exceeded the figures recorded for the second-largest type, lead-acid accumulators (excluding starter batteries) (4.8M units), sevenfold.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the average monthly growth rate of the volume of import of nickel-cadmium, nickel metal hydride, lithium-ion, lithium polymer and nickel-iron accumulators totaled -6.9%. With regard to the other supplied products, the following average monthly rates of growth were recorded: lead-acid accumulators (excluding starter batteries) (+9.7% per month) and lead-acid accumulators for starting piston engines (+2.5% per month).
In value terms, nickel-cadmium, nickel metal hydride, lithium-ion, lithium polymer and nickel-iron accumulators ($1.4B) constituted the largest type of accumulator supplied to the United States, comprising 81% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by lead-acid accumulators for starting piston engines ($187M), with an 11% share of total imports.
U.S. Accumulator Imports by Country
Vietnam (3.1M units), Mexico (1.9M units) and South Korea (1.1M units) were the main suppliers of accumulator imports to the United States, together comprising 10% of total imports. China, Spain, Malaysia, Germany, Taiwan (Chinese) and Japan lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 3.2%.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the biggest increases were in Spain (with a CAGR of +38.2%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest accumulator suppliers to the United States were Mexico ($95M), South Korea ($51M) and Vietnam ($46M), together accounting for 13% of total imports. China, Germany, Spain, Malaysia, Taiwan (Chinese) and Japan lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 4.9%.
Spain, with a CAGR of +34.8%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.
