China Acetone Import Price in September 2022
In September 2022, the acetone price stood at $577 per ton (CIF, China), dropping by -8.5% against the previous month. In general, the import price recorded a noticeable curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in March 2022 an increase of 5.4% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $784 per ton in April 2022; however, from May 2022 to September 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In September 2022, the countries with the highest prices were Thailand ($608 per ton) and Saudi Arabia ($581 per ton), while the price for Japan ($490 per ton) and South Korea ($561 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Singapore (-1.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
China Acetone Imports
In September 2022, after two months of growth, there was significant decline in purchases abroad of acetone, when their volume decreased by -22.1% to 57K tons. In general, imports continue to indicate a perceptible slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in August 2022 with an increase of 37% m-o-m. As a result, imports attained the peak of 73K tons, and then contracted sharply in the following month.
In value terms, acetone imports reduced sharply to $33M (IndexBox estimates) in September 2022. Overall, imports recorded a abrupt contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in May 2022 with an increase of 28% m-o-m. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at 50K tons in January 2022; however, from February 2022 to September 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
China Acetone Imports by Country
In August 2022, Saudi Arabia (35K tons) constituted the largest supplier of acetone to China, with a 47% share of total imports. Moreover, acetone imports from Saudi Arabia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Thailand (13K tons), threefold. South Korea (12K tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 16% share.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of volume from Saudi Arabia stood at +4.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Thailand (+9.8% per month) and South Korea (-5.2% per month).
In value terms, Saudi Arabia ($22M) constituted the largest supplier of acetone to China, comprising 46% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Thailand ($8.2M), with a 17% share of total imports. It was followed by South Korea, with a 17% share.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the average monthly growth rate of value from Saudi Arabia stood at +2.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Thailand (+7.6% per month) and South Korea (-4.9% per month).
