China Acrylic Polymer Import Price in September 2022
In September 2022, the acrylic polymer price stood at $2,542 per ton (CIF, China), waning by -2.5% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in May 2022 when the average import price increased by 6.2% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $2,750 per ton in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to September 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was the United States ($7,512 per ton), while the price for Saudi Arabia ($1,686 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+3.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
China Acrylic Polymer Import Prices by Type
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplied products. In September 2022, the product with the highest price was acrylic polymers, in primary forms (excluding polymethyl methacrylate) ($2,608 per ton), while the price for polymethyl methacrylate in primary forms amounted to $2,149 per ton.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by acrylic polymers, in primary forms (excluding polymethyl methacrylate) (+0.0%).
China Acrylic Polymer Imports
In September 2022, imports of acrylic polymers (in primary forms) into China shrank modestly to 67K tons, reducing by -3.5% compared with the month before. Over the period under review, imports recorded a noticeable curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in March 2022 when imports increased by 28% m-o-m. As a result, imports attained the peak of 103K tons. From April 2022 to September 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, acrylic polymer imports contracted to $169M (IndexBox estimates) in September 2022. In general, imports saw a noticeable contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in March 2022 when imports increased by 29% against the previous month. As a result, imports reached the peak of $262M. From April 2022 to September 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In September 2022, acrylic polymers, in primary forms (excluding polymethyl methacrylate) (57K tons) constituted the largest type of acrylic polymer supplied to China, with a 86% share of total imports. Moreover, acrylic polymers, in primary forms (excluding polymethyl methacrylate) exceeded the figures recorded for the second-largest type, polymethyl methacrylate in primary forms (9.5K tons), sixfold.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly growth rate of the volume of import of acrylic polymers, in primary forms (excluding polymethyl methacrylate) totaled -3.0%.
In value terms, acrylic polymers, in primary forms (excluding polymethyl methacrylate) ($149M) constituted the largest type of acrylic polymer supplied to China, comprising 88% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by polymethyl methacrylate in primary forms ($20M), with a 12% share of total imports.
China Acrylic Polymer Imports by Country
In September 2022, South Korea (27K tons) constituted the largest supplier of acrylic polymer to China, with a 41% share of total imports. Moreover, acrylic polymer imports from South Korea exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Taiwan (Chinese) (9K tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by Japan (7K tons), with a 10% share.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly growth rate of volume from South Korea totaled -2.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Taiwan (Chinese) (-4.0% per month) and Japan (-7.4% per month).
In value terms, South Korea ($56M) constituted the largest supplier of acrylic polymer to China, comprising 33% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Japan ($27M), with a 16% share of total imports. It was followed by Taiwan (Chinese), with a 10% share.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly growth rate of value from South Korea totaled -3.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Japan (-4.7% per month) and Taiwan (Chinese) (-5.5% per month).
