U.S. Acrylic Polymer Import Price per Ton in June 2022
In June 2022, the acrylic polymer price per ton amounted to $3.0K (CIF, US), reducing by -4.1% against the previous month. In general, the import price saw a slight reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in April 2022 when the average import price increased by 2.5% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $3.2K per ton in January 2022; however, from February 2022 to June 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2022, the country with the highest price was Sweden ($5.3K per ton), while the price for China ($1.6K per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (+13.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
U.S. Acrylic Polymer Import Prices by Type
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplied products. In June 2022, the product with the highest price was polymethyl methacrylate in primary forms ($3.8K per ton), while the price for acrylic polymers, in primary forms (excluding polymethyl methacrylate) amounted to $3.0K per ton.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by polymethyl methacrylate (+0.3%).
U.S. Acrylic Polymer Imports
In June 2022, acrylic polymer imports into the United States totaled 45K tons, almost unchanged from the previous month. The total import volume increased at an average monthly rate of +7.6% from January 2022 to June 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 when imports increased by 25% against the previous month. Imports peaked in June 2022.
In value terms, acrylic polymer imports reduced slightly to $135M (IndexBox estimates) in June 2022. The total import value increased at an average monthly rate of +6.5% over the period from January 2022 to June 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain months. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 when imports increased by 27% against the previous month.

In June 2022, acrylic polymers, in primary forms (excluding polymethyl methacrylate) (44K tons) was the main type of acrylic polymer supplied to the United States, accounting for a 97% share of total imports. Moreover, acrylic polymers, in primary forms (excluding polymethyl methacrylate) exceeded the figures recorded for the second-largest type, polymethyl methacrylate in primary forms (1.5K tons), more than tenfold.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of the volume of import of acrylic polymers, in primary forms (excluding polymethyl methacrylate) stood at +7.6%.
In value terms, acrylic polymers, in primary forms (excluding polymethyl methacrylate) ($129M) constituted the largest type of acrylic polymer supplied to the United States, comprising 96% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by polymethyl methacrylate in primary forms ($5.5M), with a 4.1% share of total imports.
U.S. Acrylic Polymer Imports by Country
South Korea (8.3K tons), Canada (7.5K tons) and Japan (5.2K tons) were the main suppliers of acrylic polymer imports to the United States, with a combined 47% share of total imports. These countries were followed by China, Mexico, Germany, the UK, France, the Netherlands, Sweden, Spain and Italy, which together accounted for a further 42%.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the biggest increases were in Spain (with a CAGR of +19.9%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest acrylic polymer suppliers to the United States were Canada ($19M), Japan ($18M) and Germany ($16M), with a combined 40% share of total imports. South Korea, Mexico, the UK, China, France, Sweden, the Netherlands, Spain and Italy lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 45%.
Among the main suppliers, Spain, with a CAGR of +36.6%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
