U.S. Aircraft Import Price in August 2022
In August 2022, the aircraft price amounted to $194K per unit (CIF, US), dropping by -11.4% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price showed a noticeable descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in May 2022 an increase of 117% against the previous month. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $340.7M per thousand units. From June 2022 to August 2022, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Austria ($1,480K per unit), while the price for Slovakia ($6.2K per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the UK (+37.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
U.S. Aircraft Imports
In August 2022, the amount of airplanes and other aircraft imported into the United States reduced to 43 units, waning by -6.5% compared with the month before. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a prominent increase from January 2022 to August 2022: its volume increased at an average monthly rate of +5.8% over the last seven months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on August 2022 figures, imports increased by +22.9% against June 2022 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in February 2022 with an increase of 117% m-o-m. As a result, imports reached the peak of 63 units. From March 2022 to August 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, aircraft imports reduced remarkably to $8.4M (IndexBox estimates) in August 2022. In general, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in May 2022 when imports increased by 131% month-to-month. As a result, imports reached the peak of $17M. From June 2022 to August 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
U.S. Aircraft Imports by Country
Canada (10 units), Germany (9 units) and Italy (6 units) were the main suppliers of aircraft imports to the United States, together accounting for 58% of total imports. the UK, Slovenia, Slovakia, Australia, the Czech Republic, Austria, Israel and China lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 42%.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the biggest increases were in the UK (with a CAGR of +30.8%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Canada ($4.6M) constituted the largest supplier of aircraft to the United States, comprising 55% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Austria ($1.5M), with an 18% share of total imports. It was followed by Italy, with a 7.4% share.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of value from Canada stood at +2.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Austria (-6.9% per month) and Italy (+8.0% per month).
