U.S. Alkali Metals Import Price per Ton in June 2022
In June 2022, the alkali metals price per ton amounted to $6.5K (CIF, US), surging by 30% against the previous month. Over the period under review, import price indicated a strong increase from January 2022 to June 2022: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +10.4% over the last five-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on June 2022 figures, alkali metals import price increased by +85.9% against March 2022 indices. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2022, the country with the highest price was Russia ($55.0K per ton), while the price for France ($2.7K per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (+63.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
U.S. Alkali Metals Imports
After two months of decline, supplies from abroad of alkali or alkaline-earth metals, rare-earth metals, scandium and yttrium, mercury increased by 297% to 5.7K tons in August 2022. In general, imports showed a prominent expansion. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, alkali metals imports soared to $9.2M (IndexBox estimates) in August 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2022 with an increase of 60% month-to-month.
U.S. Alkali Metals Imports by Country
China (930 tons), France (489 tons) and Russia (63 tons) were the main suppliers of alkali metals imports to the United States, together comprising 97% of total imports. Mexico lagged somewhat behind, accounting for a further 1.8%.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Mexico (with a CAGR of +23.8%), while imports for the other leaders experienced a decline.
In value terms, China ($4.5M), Russia ($3.5M) and France ($1.3M) constituted the largest alkali metals suppliers to the United States, with a combined 94% share of total imports.
Russia, with a CAGR of +25.8%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.
