China Alumina Import Price in September 2022
In September 2022, the alumina price amounted to $448 per ton (CIF, China), with a decrease of -11.4% against the previous month. In general, the import price saw a slight decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in April 2022 when the average import price increased by 21% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $680 per ton in May 2022; however, from June 2022 to September 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was India ($1,213 per ton), while the price for Vietnam ($386 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (+14.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
China Alumina Imports
Alumina imports into China skyrocketed to 249K tons in September 2022, with an increase of 59% against August 2022. In general, imports posted temperate growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in June 2022 when imports increased by 94% month-to-month. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in September 2022.
In value terms, alumina imports skyrocketed to $111M (IndexBox estimates) in September 2022. Overall, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in June 2022 when imports increased by 61% m-o-m. Imports peaked in September 2022.
China Alumina Imports by Country
Australia (116K tons), Indonesia (75K tons) and Vietnam (53K tons) were the main suppliers of alumina imports to China, with a combined 98% share of total imports.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Indonesia (with a CAGR of +49.9%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest alumina suppliers to China were Australia ($45M), Indonesia ($30M) and Vietnam ($20M), with a combined 85% share of total imports.
