U.S. Animal Feed Export Price per Ton in August 2022
In August 2022, the animal feed price per ton stood at $1.4K (FOB, US), reducing by -4.3% against the previous month. In general, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in May 2022 when the average export price increased by 28% m-o-m. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $1.9K per ton. From June 2022 to August 2022, the the average export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In August 2022, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($2.3K per ton), while the average price for exports to Japan ($408.0 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Indonesia (+11.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
U.S. Animal Feed Exports
In August 2022, after two months of decline, there was significant growth in overseas shipments of animal and pet feed, when their volume increased by 10% to 112K tons. The total export volume increased at an average monthly rate of +1.2% from January 2022 to August 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations in certain months. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in March 2022 when exports increased by 19% m-o-m.
In value terms, animal feed exports expanded rapidly to $154M (IndexBox estimates) in August 2022. The total export value increased at an average monthly rate of +1.1% from January 2022 to August 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain months. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in May 2022 when exports increased by 36% month-to-month. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $217M. From June 2022 to August 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
U.S. Animal Feed Exports by Country
South Korea (21K tons), China (15K tons) and Canada (13K tons) were the main destinations of animal feed exports from the United States, together accounting for 44% of total exports. These countries were followed by Trinidad and Tobago, Mexico, Japan, the Philippines, Vietnam, Saudi Arabia, Thailand and Indonesia, which together accounted for a further 41%.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the biggest increases were in Saudi Arabia (with a CAGR of +43.7%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for animal feed exported from the United States were Canada ($25M), China ($20M) and Mexico ($16M), together accounting for 40% of total exports. South Korea, Thailand, Trinidad and Tobago, Vietnam, the Philippines, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia and Japan lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 28%.
Saudi Arabia, with a CAGR of +20.2%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
