U.S. Animal Food Export Price per Ton in July 2022
In July 2022, the animal food price per ton stood at $1.1K (FOB, US), dropping by -8.9% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in May 2022 an increase of 25% m-o-m. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $1.6K per ton. From June 2022 to July 2022, the the average export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In July 2022, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($2.8K per ton), while the average price for exports to Japan ($351.0 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to July 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Indonesia (+10.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
U.S. Animal Food Exports
In July 2022, approximately 136K tons of animal food (except dog and cat) were exported from the United States; falling by -4.9% on the month before. In general, exports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in May 2022 when exports increased by 8.7% against the previous month. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 144K tons. From June 2022 to July 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, animal food exports declined to $153M (IndexBox estimates) in July 2022. Overall, exports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in May 2022 with an increase of 36% m-o-m. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $226M. From June 2022 to July 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
U.S. Animal Food Exports by Country
South Korea (31K tons), Japan (21K tons) and China (18K tons) were the main destinations of animal food exports from the United States, together comprising 52% of total exports. These countries were followed by Canada, Mexico, Vietnam, Trinidad and Tobago, the Philippines, Taiwan (Chinese), Indonesia, Saudi Arabia and Thailand, which together accounted for a further 35%.
From January 2022 to July 2022, the biggest increases were in Saudi Arabia (with a CAGR of +43.4%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Canada ($25M), China ($18M) and Mexico ($16M) were the largest markets for animal food exported from the United States worldwide, with a combined 39% share of total exports. These countries were followed by South Korea, Japan, Thailand, Vietnam, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Taiwan (Chinese), the Philippines and Trinidad and Tobago, which together accounted for a further 30%.
Saudi Arabia, with a CAGR of +25.0%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
