U.S. Apple Export Price per Ton in August 2022
In August 2022, the apple price per ton amounted to $1.2K (FOB, US), picking up by 2.2% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a slight decline. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $1.3K per ton in January 2022; however, from February 2022 to August 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major export markets. In August 2022, the countries with the highest prices were Colombia ($1.4K per ton) and the Dominican Republic ($1.4K per ton), while the average price for exports to Mexico ($1.1K per ton) and Vietnam ($1.1K per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Colombia (+3.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
U.S. Apple Exports
In August 2022, the amount of apples exported from the United States contracted to 44K tons, which is down by -10.8% on the month before. Overall, exports saw a abrupt decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in March 2022 when exports increased by 16% month-to-month. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 73K tons. From April 2022 to August 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, apple exports shrank to $53M (IndexBox estimates) in August 2022. In general, exports showed a drastic downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 when exports increased by 13% m-o-m. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $95M. From April 2022 to August 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
U.S. Apple Exports by Country
Canada (16K tons), Mexico (16K tons) and Israel (4.3K tons) were the main destinations of apple exports from the United States, with a combined 83% share of total exports. the Dominican Republic, Honduras, Colombia, Vietnam, Indonesia, Hong Kong SAR and Taiwan (Chinese) lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 11%.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Honduras (with a CAGR of +49.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Canada ($21M), Mexico ($18M) and Israel ($5.1M) constituted the largest markets for apple exported from the United States worldwide, together accounting for 82% of total exports. These countries were followed by the Dominican Republic, Colombia, Honduras, Indonesia, Vietnam, Hong Kong SAR and Taiwan (Chinese), which together accounted for a further 12%.
Honduras, with a CAGR of +48.2%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
