U.S. Avocado Import Price per Ton in August 2022
In August 2022, the avocado price per ton stood at $2.5K (CIF, US), dropping by -19.2% against the previous month. Overall, the import price recorded a noticeable contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2022 when the average import price increased by 23% m-o-m. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $4.3K per ton. From May 2022 to August 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Mexico ($2.6K per ton), while the price for the Dominican Republic ($1.4K per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Dominican Republic (+0.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
U.S. Avocado Imports
In August 2022, supplies from abroad of avocados increased by 17% to 112K tons, rising for the second consecutive month after three months of decline. Overall, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 when imports increased by 37% month-to-month. Imports peaked in August 2022.
In value terms, avocado imports dropped to $277M (IndexBox estimates) in August 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a pronounced descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 with an increase of 49% month-to-month.
U.S. Avocado Imports by Country
Mexico (72K tons), Peru (37K tons) and the Dominican Republic (1.7K tons) were the main suppliers of avocado imports to the United States, with a combined 99% share of total imports.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the biggest increases were in Peru (with a CAGR of +170.8%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline.
In value terms, Mexico ($191M) constituted the largest supplier of avocado to the United States, comprising 69% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Peru ($81M), with a 29% share of total imports.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of value from Mexico amounted to -8.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Peru (+146.1% per month) and the Dominican Republic (-12.1% per month).

Read about the U.S. avocado import price and imports from January 2022 to January 2023. Mexico was the main supplier of avocados to the United States with a 96% share of total imports. The average import price increased by 1.7% against the previous month, but recorded a perceptible slump overall. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in April 2022 when the average import price increased by 23% m-o-m. In general, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern, with the most prominent rate of growth recorded in March 2022. Overall, imports, however, saw a perceptible reduction.
