U.S. Baby Food Import Price per Ton in June 2022
In June 2022, the baby food price per ton amounted to $7.7K (CIF, US), increasing by 14% against the previous month. Over the period from January 2022 to June 2022, it increased at an average monthly rate of +6.6%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in May 2022 an increase of 18% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum in June 2022.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Australia ($20.4K per ton), while the price for Chile ($2.7K per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the UK (+30.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
U.S. Baby Food Imports
In August 2022, supplies from abroad of food preparations for infants decreased by -15.8% to 4K tons for the first time since May 2022, thus ending a two-month rising trend. Overall, imports, however, enjoyed buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 when imports increased by 87% against the previous month.
In value terms, baby food imports reduced to $31M (IndexBox estimates) in August 2022. In general, imports, however, posted significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in March 2022 with an increase of 100% month-to-month.
U.S. Baby Food Imports by Country
Mexico (1.6K tons), Ireland (1.1K tons) and the UK (287 tons) were the main suppliers of baby food imports to the United States, together accounting for 88% of total imports. Australia, Germany and Chile lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 10%.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the biggest increases were in Germany (with a CAGR of +839.6%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest baby food suppliers to the United States were Ireland ($8.5M), Mexico ($7.6M) and the UK ($4.6M), with a combined 81% share of total imports. Australia, Germany and Chile lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 17%.
Germany, with a CAGR of +678.4%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
