U.S. Bacon and Ham Import Price per Ton in June 2022
In June 2022, the bacon and ham price per ton stood at $9.3K (CIF, US), surging by 12% against the previous month. Overall, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2022, the country with the highest price was Spain ($14.0K per ton), while the price for Mexico ($4.6K per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+3.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
U.S. Bacon and Ham Import Prices by Type
Prices varied noticeably by the product type; the product with the highest price was pig meat other than hams or bellies (salted, in brine, dried or smoked) ($12.6K per ton), while the price for swine bellies (salted, in brine, dried or smoked) ($6.6K per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to July 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by salted, dried, or smoked hams, shoulders and cuts of swine (+2.5%), while the prices for the other products experienced more modest paces of growth.
U.S. Bacon and Ham Imports
In July 2022, bacon and ham imports into the United States declined to 3.3K tons, waning by -9.6% on the month before. The total import volume increased at an average monthly rate of +4.0% from January 2022 to July 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain months. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in March 2022 with an increase of 39% month-to-month. As a result, imports reached the peak of 4.2K tons. From April 2022 to July 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Canada (2K tons), Italy (1.2K tons) and Spain (231 tons) were the main suppliers of bacon and ham imports to the United States, with a combined 95% share of total imports.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the biggest increases were in Spain (with a CAGR of +37.6%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Italy ($17M), Canada ($13M) and Spain ($3.2M) were the largest bacon and ham suppliers to the United States, with a combined 97% share of total imports.
