U.S. Baryte Import Price per Ton in August 2022
In August 2022, the baryte price per ton stood at $169.4 (CIF, US), rising by 47% against the previous month. Overall, import price indicated a resilient increase from January 2022 to August 2022: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +9.2% over the last seven months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on August 2022 figures, baryte import price increased by +94.6% against May 2022 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in February 2022 when the average import price increased by 56% m-o-m. The import price peaked in August 2022.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2022, the country with the highest price was China ($172.0 per ton), while the price for Morocco ($89.0 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+11.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
U.S. Baryte Imports
In August 2022, imports of barytes into the United States soared to 239K tons, picking up by 21% on the previous month. In general, imports saw slight growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in July 2022 with an increase of 107% m-o-m. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in August 2022.
In value terms, baryte imports surged to $41M (IndexBox estimates) in August 2022. Overall, imports saw a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in July 2022 when imports increased by 164% m-o-m. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in August 2022.
U.S. Baryte Imports by Country
Morocco (105K tons), China (59K tons) and India (57K tons) were the main suppliers of baryte imports to the United States, together comprising 92% of total imports.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the biggest increases were in Morocco (with a CAGR of +17.6%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.
In value terms, the largest baryte suppliers to the United States were China ($10M), Morocco ($9.4M) and India ($6.6M), with a combined 65% share of total imports.
Morocco, with a CAGR of +18.5%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
