U.S. Bearing Export Price per Ton in August 2022
In August 2022, the bearing price per ton amounted to $16.2K (FOB, US), dropping by -9.3% against the previous month. Over the last seven months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +5.5%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2022 an increase of 24% month-to-month. The export price peaked at $17.8K per ton in July 2022, and then shrank in the following month.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Singapore ($47.4K per ton), while the average price for exports to Austria ($1.4K per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Hong Kong SAR (+34.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
U.S. Bearing Export Prices by Type
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major types of exported product. In August 2022, the product with the highest price was spherical roller bearings ($211.6K per ton), while the average price for exports of needle roller bearings ($1.6K per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for the following types: roller bearing (+7.7%), while the prices for the other products experienced more modest paces of growth.
U.S. Bearing Exports
In August 2022, after two months of decline, there was significant growth in shipments abroad of ball or roller bearings, when their volume increased by 16% to 11K tons. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a slight reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in March 2022 when exports increased by 27% m-o-m. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 14K tons. From April 2022 to August 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, bearing exports amounted to $181M (IndexBox estimates) in August 2022. The total export value increased at an average monthly rate of +3.6% over the period from January 2022 to August 2022; however, the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being observed in certain months. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 when exports increased by 14% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in August 2022.
U.S. Bearing Exports by Type
Needle roller bearings (6.8K tons) was the largest type of bearing exported from the United States, with a 60% share of total exports. Moreover, needle roller bearings exceeded the volume of the second product type, tapered roller bearings (2.3K tons), threefold. Ball bearings (1.3K tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 12% share.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of the volume of export of needle roller bearings stood at -3.3%. With regard to the other exported products, the following average monthly rates of growth were recorded: tapered roller bearings (+2.2% per month) and ball bearings (+0.4% per month).
In value terms, the most traded types of ball or roller bearings in the United States were ball bearings ($66M), tapered roller bearings ($59M) and cylindrical roller bearings ($27M), with a combined 84% share of total exports. These products were followed by needle roller bearings, spherical roller bearings and roller bearings, which together accounted for a further 16%.
Tapered roller bearing, with a CAGR of +6.1%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main product categories over the period under review, while shipments for the other products experienced more modest paces of growth.
U.S. Bearing Exports by Country
Mexico (4.6K tons) was the main destination for bearing exports from the United States, with a 41% share of total exports. Moreover, bearing exports to Mexico exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Canada (1.4K tons), threefold. China (1K tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 9.3% share.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the average monthly growth rate of volume to Mexico stood at -5.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: Canada (+4.7% per month) and China (+8.3% per month).
In value terms, Mexico ($42M), Canada ($38M) and China ($9.7M) appeared to be the largest markets for bearing exported from the United States worldwide, with a combined 49% share of total exports. Germany, Singapore, France, Brazil, South Korea, Japan, India, the Netherlands, Hong Kong SAR, Hungary and Austria lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 25%.
Singapore, with a CAGR of +10.9%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
