Bed Linen Prices in the United States

U.S. Bed Linen Import Price per Ton in June 2022

In June 2022, the bed linen price per ton stood at $3.8K (CIF, US), approximately mirroring the previous month. Over the last five-month period, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.1%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in March 2022 when the average import price increased by 7% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $3.9K per ton in April 2022; however, from May 2022 to June 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was India ($7.0K per ton), while the price for China ($2.7K per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2022 to June 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (+3.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

U.S. Bed Linen Import Prices by Type

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplied products. In August 2022, the product with the highest price was bed linen of knitted or crocheted textiles ($6.1K per ton), while the price for bed linen of other woven textiles and non-woven man-made fibres ($2.5K per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by bed linen of knitted or crocheted textiles (+3.3%), while the prices for the other products experienced more modest paces of growth.

U.S. Bed Linen Imports

For the fourth month in a row, the United States recorded decline in purchases abroad of bed linen, which decreased by -2% to 67K tons in August 2022. In general, imports showed a pronounced decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in April 2022 when imports increased by 5.5% against the previous month.

In value terms, bed linen imports reduced slightly to $275M (IndexBox estimates) in August 2022. Over the period under review, imports showed a perceptible shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in April 2022 with an increase of 6.1% against the previous month. As a result, imports attained the peak of $334M. From May 2022 to August 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

U.S. Bed Linen Imports by Type

Bed linen of cotton (32K tons), bed linen of other woven textiles and non-woven man-made fibres (31K tons) and bed linen of knitted or crocheted textiles (4.5K tons) were the main products of bed linen imports to the United States.

From January 2022 to August 2022, the biggest increases were in bed linen of cotton (with a CAGR of -1.4%), while purchases for the other products experienced a decline.

In value terms, bed linen of cotton ($168M) constituted the largest type of bed linen supplied to the United States, comprising 61% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by bed linen of other woven textiles and non-woven man-made fibres ($80M), with a 29% share of total imports.

U.S. Bed Linen Imports by Country

In June 2022, China (44K tons) constituted the largest bed linen supplier to the United States, with a 61% share of total imports. Moreover, bed linen imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Pakistan (13K tons), threefold.

From January 2022 to June 2022, the average monthly growth rate of volume from China totaled -4.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Pakistan (-5.1% per month) and India (-3.1% per month).

In value terms, the largest bed linen suppliers to the United States were China ($121M), India ($80M) and Pakistan ($43M), with a combined 88% share of total imports.

In terms of the main suppliers, India, with a CAGR of +0.0%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline.
