China Berry Import Price in September 2022
In September 2022, the berry price amounted to $8,645 per ton (CIF, China), waning by -6.8% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a modest expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in May 2022 an increase of 233% m-o-m. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $17,219 per ton. From June 2022 to September 2022, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In September 2022, the country with the highest price was Canada ($10.2 per kg), while the price for the United States ($7,369 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Peru (+1.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
China Berry Import Prices by Type
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplied products. In September 2022, the product with the highest price was cherries and sour cherries ($9,881 per ton), while the price for blueberries and cranberries totaled $8,239 per ton.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by cherry and sour cherry (+2.7%), while the prices for the other product experienced more modest paces of growth.
China Berry Imports
In September 2022, overseas purchases of berries increased by 128% to 9.1K tons, rising for the fourth consecutive month after four months of decline. Overall, imports, however, showed a sharp contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in June 2022 with an increase of 5,366% m-o-m. Imports peaked at 136K tons in January 2022; however, from February 2022 to September 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, berry imports surged to $79M (IndexBox estimates) in September 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a precipitous slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in June 2022 when imports increased by 3,860% month-to-month. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at 1.1M tons in January 2022; however, from February 2022 to September 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
China Berry Imports by Type
In September 2022, blueberries and cranberries (6.8K tons) constituted the largest type of berry supplied to China, accounting for a 75% share of total imports. Moreover, blueberries and cranberries exceeded the figures recorded for the second-largest type, cherries and sour cherries (2.2K tons), threefold.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of the volume of import of blueberries and cranberries amounted to +2.5%.
In value terms, blueberries and cranberries ($56M) constituted the largest type of berry supplied to China, comprising 72% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by cherries and sour cherries ($22M), with a 28% share of total imports.
China Berry Imports by Country
In September 2022, Peru (6.8K tons) constituted the largest supplier of berry to China, with a 75% share of total imports. Moreover, berry imports from Peru exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Canada (2K tons), threefold.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of volume from Peru stood at +8.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Canada (+510.0% per month) and the United States (+151.8% per month).
In value terms, Peru ($56M) constituted the largest supplier of berry to China, comprising 72% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Canada ($20M), with a 26% share of total imports.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of value from Peru totaled +10.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Canada (+447.5% per month) and the United States (+103.7% per month).
