Bismuth Prices in China

China Bismuth Export Price in September 2022

In September 2022, the bismuth price stood at $7,859 per ton (FOB, China), almost unchanged from the previous month. In general, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in July 2022 when the average export price increased by 19% m-o-m. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $8,872 per ton. From August 2022 to September 2022, the the average export prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major external markets. In September 2022, the highest price was recorded for prices to Germany ($8,585 per ton) and Mexico ($8,184 per ton), while the average price for exports to the Netherlands ($6,546 per ton) and Japan ($6,941 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Hong Kong SAR (+4.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

China Bismuth Exports

In September 2022, exports of bismuth from China declined notably to 416 tons, waning by -27.7% on August 2022 figures. In general, exports saw a pronounced downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in August 2022 with an increase of 36% against the previous month. The exports peaked at 669 tons in May 2022; however, from June 2022 to September 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, bismuth exports fell notably to $3.3M (IndexBox estimates) in September 2022. Over the period under review, exports showed a pronounced decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in August 2022 when exports increased by 21% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at 5.1K tons in May 2022; however, from June 2022 to September 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

China Bismuth Exports by Country

The United States (159 tons), Germany (100 tons) and the Netherlands (50 tons) were the main destinations of bismuth exports from China, together accounting for 74% of total exports. These countries were followed by India, Mexico, Canada and Japan, which together accounted for a further 21%.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by India (with a CAGR of +4.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the United States ($1.1M), Germany ($860K) and the Netherlands ($329K) appeared to be the largest markets for bismuth exported from China worldwide, with a combined 70% share of total exports. India, Mexico, Canada and Japan lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 20%.

Among the main countries of destination, India, with a CAGR of +5.0%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
