U.S. Bridge Import Price per Ton in May 2022
In May 2022, the bridge price per ton amounted to $2.3K (CIF, US), standing approximately at the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a deep slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in March 2022 when the average import price increased by 42% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $5.2K per ton in January 2022; however, from February 2022 to May 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Canada ($5.8K per ton), while the price for China ($1.4K per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to May 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Canada (+16.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
U.S. Bridge Import Prices by Type
Prices varied noticeably by the product type; the product with the highest price was iron or steel bridges and bridge-sections ($4.9K per ton), while the price for iron or steel towers and lattice masts stood at $2.4K per ton.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by iron or steel bridges (-0.4%).
U.S. Bridge Imports
In August 2022, supplies from abroad of bridges, bridge sections, towers and lattice masts (of iron or steel) decreased by -47.8% to 18K tons for the first time since February 2022, thus ending a five-month rising trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed a buoyant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in April 2022 with an increase of 239% month-to-month.
In value terms, bridge imports declined significantly to $44M (IndexBox estimates) in August 2022. Overall, imports, however, recorded a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2022 with an increase of 101% month-to-month.
U.S. Bridge Imports by Type
In August 2022, iron or steel towers and lattice masts (17K tons) was the main type of bridge supplied to the United States, accounting for a 95% share of total imports. Moreover, iron or steel towers and lattice masts exceeded the figures recorded for the second-largest type, iron or steel bridges and bridge-sections (925 tons), more than tenfold.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of the volume of import of iron or steel towers and lattice masts amounted to +16.6%.
In value terms, iron or steel towers and lattice masts ($40M) constituted the largest type of bridge supplied to the United States, comprising 90% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by iron or steel bridges and bridge-sections ($4.6M), with a 10% share of total imports.
U.S. Bridge Imports by Country
China (9.6K tons), South Korea (7K tons) and Canada (2.1K tons) were the main suppliers of bridge imports to the United States, together comprising 95% of total imports.
From January 2022 to May 2022, the biggest increases were in China (with a CAGR of +190.9%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, China ($14M), South Korea ($13M) and Canada ($12M) constituted the largest bridge suppliers to the United States, with a combined 86% share of total imports.
In terms of the main suppliers, China, with a CAGR of +132.6%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
