U.S. Butter And Dairy Spreads Import Price per Ton in June 2022
In June 2022, the butter and dairy spreads price per ton amounted to $8.7K (CIF, US), with an increase of 28% against the previous month. Over the last five months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +4.5%. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Ireland ($9.1K per ton), while the price for the UK ($3.7K per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Ireland (+5.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
U.S. Butter And Dairy Spreads Import Prices by Type
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplied products. In August 2022, the product with the highest price was dairy spreads ($10.2K per ton), while the price for butter totaled $8.9K per ton.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by butter (+3.5%).
U.S. Butter And Dairy Spreads Imports
Butter and dairy spreads imports into the United States contracted markedly to 4.1K tons in August 2022, shrinking by -35% compared with July 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a pronounced expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in July 2022 when imports increased by 74% against the previous month. As a result, imports attained the peak of 6.3K tons, and then fell markedly in the following month.
In value terms, butter and dairy spreads imports shrank significantly to $36M (IndexBox estimates) in August 2022. In general, imports, however, showed a resilient expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in July 2022 with an increase of 70% month-to-month. As a result, imports reached the peak of $54M, and then reduced remarkably in the following month.

In August 2022, butter (4K tons) was the main type of butter and dairy spreads supplied to the United States, with a 98% share of total imports. It was followed by dairy spreads (61 tons), with a 1.5% share of total imports.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of the volume of import of butter totaled +4.2%.
In value terms, butter ($36M) constituted the largest type of butter and dairy spreads supplied to the United States, comprising 98% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by dairy spreads ($625K), with a 1.7% share of total imports.

In June 2022, Ireland (3K tons) constituted the largest butter and dairy spreads supplier to the United States, accounting for a 82% share of total imports. Moreover, butter and dairy spreads imports from Ireland exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, France (201 tons), more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by New Zealand (141 tons), with a 3.9% share.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the average monthly growth rate of volume from Ireland stood at +8.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: France (-4.6% per month) and New Zealand (-22.2% per month).
In value terms, Ireland ($27M) constituted the largest supplier of butter and dairy spreads to the United States, comprising 85% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by France ($1.7M), with a 5.5% share of total imports. It was followed by New Zealand, with a 3.7% share.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the average monthly growth rate of value from Ireland stood at +14.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: France (-2.3% per month) and New Zealand (-19.2% per month).
