Butter And Ghee Prices in China

China Butter And Ghee Import Price in September 2022

In September 2022, the butter and ghee price amounted to $6,892 per ton (CIF, China), growing by 2.2% against the previous month. Over the last eight-month period, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.3%. The growth pace was the most rapid in June 2022 when the average import price increased by 4.5% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $6,987 per ton in July 2022; however, from August 2022 to September 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Belgium ($9,166 per ton), while the price for Australia ($5,001 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belgium (+6.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

China Butter And Ghee Import Prices by Type

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplied products. In September 2022, the product with the highest price was butter and dairy spreads ($7,013 per ton), while the price for ghee totaled $6,646 per ton.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by butter and dairy spreads (+2.6%).

China Butter And Ghee Imports

Butter and ghee imports into China dropped dramatically to 9.3K tons in September 2022, which is down by -19.8% compared with the previous month's figure. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a abrupt slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in July 2022 when imports increased by 58% m-o-m. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at 16K tons in January 2022; however, from February 2022 to September 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, butter and ghee imports fell dramatically to $64M (IndexBox estimates) in September 2022. Overall, imports recorded a pronounced shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in July 2022 when imports increased by 63% month-to-month. As a result, imports reached the peak of $105M. From August 2022 to September 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

China Butter And Ghee Imports by Type

In September 2022, butter and dairy spreads (6.2K tons) constituted the largest type of butter and ghee supplied to China, accounting for a 67% share of total imports. Moreover, butter and dairy spreads exceeded the figures recorded for the second-largest type, ghee (3.1K tons), twofold.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of the volume of import of butter and dairy spreads stood at -9.0%.

In value terms, butter and dairy spreads ($44M) constituted the largest type of butter and ghee supplied to China, comprising 68% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by ghee ($21M), with a 32% share of total imports.

China Butter And Ghee Imports by Country

In September 2022, New Zealand (7.6K tons) constituted the largest butter and ghee supplier to China, with a 82% share of total imports. Moreover, butter and ghee imports from New Zealand exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, France (518 tons), more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Australia (340 tons), with a 3.6% share.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly growth rate of volume from New Zealand amounted to -8.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: France (+8.7% per month) and Australia (+3.2% per month).

In value terms, New Zealand ($52M) constituted the largest supplier of butter and ghee to China, comprising 80% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by France ($4.7M), with a 7.4% share of total imports. It was followed by Australia, with a 2.6% share.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly growth rate of value from New Zealand stood at -6.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: France (+9.7% per month) and Australia (+3.0% per month).
