U.S. Canned Vegetable Import Price per Ton in June 2022
In June 2022, the canned vegetable price per ton amounted to $2.4K (CIF, US), increasing by 8.2% against the previous month. Over the last five-month period, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.7%. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2022, the country with the highest price was Greece ($4.7K per ton), while the price for China ($1.2K per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Thailand (+6.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
U.S. Canned Vegetable Imports
In June 2022, imports of canned vegetables into the United States fell to 70K tons, dropping by -5.3% against the previous month. The total import volume increased at an average monthly rate of +1.9% from January 2022 to June 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations in certain months. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in March 2022 with an increase of 12% month-to-month.
In value terms, canned vegetable imports rose to $167M (IndexBox estimates) in June 2022. The total import value increased at an average monthly rate of +3.6% from January 2022 to June 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in March 2022 when imports increased by 18% month-to-month. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in June 2022.
U.S. Canned Vegetable Imports by Country
China (14K tons), Mexico (8.7K tons) and Spain (7.8K tons) were the main suppliers of canned vegetable imports to the United States, together comprising 43% of total imports. These countries were followed by Peru, Canada, Greece, Italy, Morocco, India, Thailand, Guatemala, Egypt and Turkey, which together accounted for a further 46%.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the biggest increases were in Greece (with a CAGR of +7.6%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest canned vegetable suppliers to the United States were Greece ($26M), Mexico ($25M) and Spain ($21M), together comprising 43% of total imports.
Among the main suppliers, Greece, with a CAGR of +11.4%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
