China Cement Clinker Import Price in September 2022
In September 2022, the cement clinker price amounted to $49.9 per ton (CIF, China), increasing by 2.4% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in March 2022 when the average import price increased by 7.7% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $60.6 per ton in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to September 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Japan ($821 per ton), while the price for Vietnam amounted to $50.0 per ton.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Japan (+41.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
China Cement Clinker Imports
In September 2022, supplies from abroad of cement clinker increased by 236% to 170K tons, rising for the second consecutive month after four months of decline. Overall, imports, however, showed a precipitous decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in August 2022 with an increase of 3,341% month-to-month. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at 2.7M tons in March 2022; however, from April 2022 to September 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, cement clinker imports skyrocketed to $8.5M (IndexBox estimates) in September 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, faced a precipitous slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in August 2022 when imports increased by 2,756% m-o-m. Imports peaked at 150K tons in March 2022; however, from April 2022 to September 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
China Cement Clinker Imports by Country
In September 2022, Vietnam (170K tons) was the main supplier of cement clinker to China, accounting for a 99.9% share of total imports. It was followed by Japan (5.7 tons), with less than 0.1% share of total imports.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of volume from Vietnam stood at -22.6%.
In value terms, Vietnam ($8.5M) constituted the largest supplier of cement clinker to China, comprising 100% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Japan ($4.6K), with a 0.1% share of total imports.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly growth rate of value from Vietnam totaled -23.3%.
