China Ceramic Tile Export Price in September 2022
In September 2022, the ceramic tile price amounted to $9.6 per square meter (FOB, China), with an increase of 16% against the previous month. Over the last eight months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.7%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In September 2022, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($38.3 per square meter), while the average price for exports to Cameroon ($4.0 per square meter) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Canada (+9.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
China Ceramic Tile Exports
In September 2022, shipments abroad of ceramic tiles decreased by -7.3% to 47M square meters, falling for the second month in a row after five months of growth. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a modest expansion from January 2022 to September 2022: its volume increased at an average monthly rate of +1.8% over the last eight months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on September 2022 figures, exports decreased by -19.3% against July 2022 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 with an increase of 69% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at 58M square meters in July 2022; however, from August 2022 to September 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, ceramic tile exports rose remarkably to $447M (IndexBox estimates) in September 2022. In general, exports, however, showed a noticeable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 when exports increased by 87% m-o-m. The exports peaked at 467M square meters in July 2022; however, from August 2022 to September 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
China Ceramic Tile Exports by Country
The Philippines (9.2M square meters) was the main destination for ceramic tile exports from China, accounting for a 20% share of total exports. Moreover, ceramic tile exports to the Philippines exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Indonesia (4.1M square meters), twofold. South Korea (4M square meters) ranked third in terms of total exports with an 8.5% share.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of volume to the Philippines stood at +3.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: Indonesia (-0.6% per month) and South Korea (-4.5% per month).
In value terms, the largest markets for ceramic tile exported from China were Vietnam ($74M), the Philippines ($63M) and Myanmar ($27M), with a combined 37% share of total exports. These countries were followed by South Korea, Thailand, Australia, Indonesia, Canada, Cambodia, Malaysia, Singapore, Japan and Cameroon, which together accounted for a further 31%.
In terms of the main countries of destination, Canada, with a CAGR of +18.8%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
