U.S. Cheese And Curd Export Price per Ton in August 2022
In August 2022, the cheese and curd price per ton amounted to $5.3K (FOB, US), remaining constant against the previous month. Over the period from January 2022 to August 2022, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.2%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in May 2022 an increase of 5.6% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure in August 2022.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major foreign markets. In August 2022, the countries with the highest prices were Canada ($6.2K per ton) and Taiwan (Chinese) ($6.2K per ton), while the average price for exports to Indonesia ($4.4K per ton) and the Philippines ($4.5K per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Chile (+3.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major types of exported product. In August 2022, the product with the highest price was cheese, blue-veined (not grated, powdered or processed) ($8.9K per ton), while the average price for exports of processed cheese (excluding grated or powdered) ($5.0K per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for the following types: cheese, blue-veined (not grated, powdered or processed) (+4.4%), while the prices for the other products experienced more modest paces of growth.

Cheese and curd exports from the United States was estimated at 39K tons in August 2022, growing by 3% compared with July 2022 figures. The total export volume increased at an average monthly rate of +3.9% from January 2022 to August 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in March 2022 when exports increased by 27% m-o-m.
In value terms, cheese and curd exports rose slightly to $204M (IndexBox estimates) in August 2022. The total export value increased at an average monthly rate of +6.1% from January 2022 to August 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 when exports increased by 28% against the previous month.

Cheese, other than blue-veined, grated, powdered or processed (18K tons), fresh cheese (unripened or uncured cheese), including whey cheese and curd (10K tons) and cheese of all kinds, grated or powdered (7.8K tons) were the main products of cheese and curd exports from the United States, with a combined 93% share of total exports.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the biggest increases were in cheese, other than blue-veined, grated, powdered or processed (with a CAGR of +5.8%), while shipments for the other products experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the most traded types of cheese and curd in the United States were cheese, other than blue-veined, grated, powdered or processed ($95M), fresh cheese (unripened or uncured cheese), including whey cheese and curd ($54M) and cheese of all kinds, grated or powdered ($42M), with a combined 93% share of total exports.
In terms of the main product categories, cheese, other than blue-veined, grated, powdered or processed, with a CAGR of +8.0%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other products experienced more modest paces of growth.

Mexico (12K tons), South Korea (7.5K tons) and Japan (3.1K tons) were the main destinations of cheese and curd exports from the United States, with a combined 58% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Canada, Chile, Saudi Arabia, Australia, Panama, the Dominican Republic, Indonesia, Guatemala, the Philippines and Taiwan (Chinese), which together accounted for a further 28%.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the biggest increases were in Canada (with a CAGR of +11.5%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for cheese and curd exported from the United States were Mexico ($61M), South Korea ($39M) and Japan ($16M), with a combined 57% share of total exports.
