China Cherry and Sour Cherry Import Price in September 2022
In September 2022, the cherry and sour cherry price amounted to $9,881 per ton (CIF, China), rising by 11% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate notable growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in May 2022 an increase of 241% m-o-m. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $17,219 per ton. From June 2022 to September 2022, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In September 2022, the country with the highest price was Canada ($10.2 per kg), while the price for the United States totaled $7,369 per ton.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Chile (-5.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
China Cherry and Sour Cherry Imports
In September 2022, supplies from abroad of cherries and sour cherries increased by 11% to 2.2K tons, rising for the fourth month in a row after four months of decline. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a dramatic slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in June 2022 with an increase of 4,978% m-o-m. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at 131K tons in January 2022; however, from February 2022 to September 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, cherry and sour cherry imports surged to $22M (IndexBox estimates) in September 2022. Overall, imports, however, saw a significant decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in June 2022 with an increase of 3,705% against the previous month. Imports peaked at 1M tons in January 2022; however, from February 2022 to September 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
China Cherry and Sour Cherry Imports by Country
In September 2022, Canada (2K tons) constituted the largest cherry and sour cherry supplier to China, accounting for a 89% share of total imports. Moreover, cherry and sour cherry imports from Canada exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the United States (238 tons), eightfold.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly growth rate of volume from Canada stood at +510.0%.
In value terms, Canada ($20M) constituted the largest supplier of cherry and sour cherry to China, comprising 92% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by the United States ($1.8M), with a 7.9% share of total imports.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly growth rate of value from Canada totaled +447.5%.
